Lent is a great opportunity to teach kids about the importance of service. You can help create a service project for your students. You can help them collect donations for people in need, participate in a clean-up day, or spend time volunteering at a food pantry. Empowering kids to serve will not only benefit those in need but also inspire kids to continue serving as they grow up.
A Mission Trip to Mexico
One of my more memorable mission trips was an experience in Mexico. My university traveled to Juarez to build a house and host a vacation Bible school for students in the community. Not only were we able to gift a family with a new home, but we made connections with children in the community as we taught about Jesus. This experience gave me a wider perspective of this world and more gratitude for the gifts that God has given to me.
Serving in the Lent Season
Many churches have special events during the Lent season and this is an opportunity for you and your students to step in and contribute. You can facilitate a service project in your local community. Identify a need such as providing kits for the homeless or making witness bracelets for MOST Ministries. Hold a fundraiser to purchase fleece material and tie blankets for kids in need. This is a great way for you to be involved and serve those in need during Lent.
