Kids love singing! Music is one of the most wonderful things about the Advent season, but it’s easy to get caught up in endless rounds of “Jingle Bells” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” which don’t quite prepare the heart of a Christian like Advent hymnal songs or Advent praise songs.
A Way to Prepare
I used to wonder why Advent songs were always more somber and reflective than their Christmas counterparts. It’s the Christmas season, shouldn’t we be happy after all? But the joy of Christmas can only be experienced when we recognize the reason for which Christ came. His coming was to repair the broken relationship between God and man caused by our sins. So, the best Advent songs create a longing in the heart of the singer, a repentant attitude, and a hopeful peace that will be made perfect at Christ’s second coming.
