The month of January means one thing in Lutheran Schools, and, no, it’s not the possibility of a snow day. It’s National Lutheran Schools Week 2026! It’s the week we celebrate our schools with assemblies, special chapels, interesting activities and dress-up days! I know the planning can be a bit intense and time-consuming. Schedules get messed up and lesson plans go out the window, but by the time it’s over everyone can agree that the effort was well worth it. We need a chance give thanks for gifts God has given us and rejoice in the unity we have with Lutheran educators around the country.

National Lutheran Schools Week 2026
So how can you get the most out of National Lutheran Schools Week this year? First, participate! When I was younger I hated dress-up days at school. It felt strange to be at school with unusual clothes. My fondness for dress-up days did not increase as I got older, but I still participated. It’s a way to build relationships and unity among students and staff. So, if there is an event or program offered this week, go! Second, plan a class service project. It’s a great time to teach students to take care of those around them and share God’s love with people. Finally, connect with other schools around the country. It’s a powerful message to send to your students that there are thousands of other kids learning and growing in Jesus just like they are.
Hallway Craft!
Teach by Faith has so many awesome resources for National Lutheran Schools Week! This NLSW craft and writing activity makes a great hallways decoration or bulletin board display to help promote school spirit for this special week. Your students can write about what makes their school special and deign their own school building to illustrate their work. It is certain to be a blessing for your class!
