4 Helpful Tips for Starting a Bible Study

Are you a regular Bible study attendee? Go to any Lutheran church on a Sunday and most likely you’ll find a group of people with a Bible in one hand, donut in the other settling in for an hour in God’s Word before or after the worship service. There’s a warm comfortable atmosphere. People chat quietly, the pastor pulls up his notes and away you go. Generally speaking, there are a handful of people who do most of the talking and asking questions while the rest quietly follow along and listen. You learn some things to help you in your Christian walk that week, spend time with Christian friends, and all in all it’s a practice I highly recommend.

A Guide for Starting a Bible Study

Perhaps you’re ready to start your own Bible study in your classroom or as a small group gathering at your house. Either way, here are a few tips for getting started. First, gather your resources. Check out a great commentary to give you direction or study the notes at the bottom of your Lutheran Study Bible. Second, create a simple note page for people to record some of their thoughts during class. Third, create some thought-provoking questions to kickstart discussions. Finally, end with some personal application so the people have something to take home with them that will impact their week in a good way.

Fourth Grade Resources

Fourth grade is a great time to help students learn to study the Bible. They are capable of looking up Bible passages, making connections and thinking on a deeper level than lower elementary students. Teach by Faith’s Bible lesson curriculum for fourth grade is a great guide for starting a Bible study! All the lessons are presented in an engaging project-based learning format. You’ll also receive many supplementary materials like a Reformation unit and year-long memory.
