Lent is a great opportunity to make prayer and reflection central aspects of your family’s life. As with any Christian practice, it is important for the adults in the family to be involved in both praying for their own sake as well as teaching their children how to pray. Spending time each day reading from the Bible or other devotional material and praying together can have a significant impact on your relationships and spiritual lives.
My Memories of Lent
Growing up, I fondly remember participating in Lent as a family. Every year, my family attended Lenten services. When I was in elementary school, we had services at 1:30. My family was able to go together as my mom was a teacher and the students all went to these services. My dad had more flexibility in the winter as a farmer. When I was in middle school, we had a four o’clock service, and we would enjoy soup suppers after the service. For our family, Lent was an important time of faith-filled renewal that sustained us in both spirit and heart all through the year!
