Powerful Ways to Explain What Ash Wednesday Means

How do you help your students understand what Ash Wednesday means? There are a few different physical means that allow us to remember this season. We begin with the ashes that remind us of our identities in Christ. It also signifies the beginning of a time of fasting or giving to help us focus on Jesus. This is a season to rejoice in the resurrection of our risen Savior.

A Personal Faith

Ash Wednesday is a season when we can reevaluate our relationship with Christ. As a teen, I remember taking ownership of my faith for the first time. Faith went beyond my parents’ guidance to my pursuit of God’s Word. Early in my adult life, I was blessed with a strong group of friends who met for Bible study every week. We have studied almost every book of the Bible, and I am so grateful to have this group in my life today. While my faith is constantly growing and developing, it still remains the same – trust in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Help Your Students Understand What Ash Wednesday Means

Ultimately, my faith is the foundation that leads me to become a Christian teacher and later, develop these resources. You could use a mini book that explains the overview of this topic in simple text with pictures that students can color. Maybe your students are a little older, and you want an activity to decorate those bare halls. A craftivity with a writing component might be perfect for you. You could also use a flip book to hang in the hallway. Perhaps you have upper elementary students and are looking for a more detailed lesson in a lapbook. Finally, you might be a middle school teacher, and you are searching for some sketch notes for your students.
