Christmas is not even here yet, but it’s time to look ahead to the next big thing. Lent will be starting before we know it. Are you looking for some new ideas for your classroom for the coming season of repentance and preparation for Easter? Here are some great ideas to get your started!
Observe the Season
When I was in fifth grade right before Lent, my teacher painted black lines on our classroom windows dividing them into forty sections and giving them a stained-glass look. Each day of Lent, my classmates and I would take turns painting a cross in one of the forty sections. It was a fun and very visual reminder of the season of the year. Not being brave enough to paint on our living room windows, I created a printed version for my own kids in the form of a cross divided into forty sections. They could color one each morning counting down the days till Easter. Your students may want to try fasting for Lent in the form of giving up something they enjoy from Ash Wednesday until Easter. Something even more effective can be adding a good habit instead of giving up an old one. Encourage them to do an act of kindness each day or spend some time in daily devotions. Hopefully the new habit will last even after Lent gives way to Easter!
Lent Activities for Your Classroom
Teach by faith has some great products to help your students prepare for Easter. Try this bulletin board art to get your classroom looking great. A writing activity gives students a chance to reflect on the meaning of the season. Explain what Lent means to the youngest students using this mini book. They will be so proud to share it with their families!
