Quality Devotions for Teachers

As the school year draws to a close it’s time to start thinking about summer plans. Do you have a special vacation scheduled? My family makes an annual trip to the beach which is a highlight of the year. Do you have a home improvement project you have been putting off? Is there a skill or hobby you have put on the back burner that you are hoping to revisit? Maybe you would just like some time to lounge by the pool and enjoy the silence in which your name is not being called twenty times a minute. These are all worthy plans, but let’s add one more thing to our summer to-do list. Let’s work on our personal devotion time.

A Daily Practice

The first and most important part of personal devotions is scheduling them. First thing in the morning is a popular choice, but it does not work for everyone. If you find yourself struggling to carve out that time, try a devotional lunch or a bedtime Bible study. If you can make it your practice for a couple weeks you are well on your way to making it a good habit! Pick a book of the Bible to work through or find a devotional book you like. Using a study Bible can help tremendously when you encounter a difficult passage.

Here are some other great resources that will help. This devotion book features Scripture readings and Lutheran prayers and hymns for each day. Pop in your earbuds and listen to these devotions while taking a walk or sitting in the car. Find a devotion book written by your favorite author! This is one of my favorites!
