Does it ever feel like God is a phantom in your life? Sometimes when we’re going through a particularly difficult time, struggling with our relationships, going through a hard medical diagnosis, trying to make ends meet on a tiny budget, God can seem pretty far away. We go to church on Sunday, remember to pray before bed and read the Bible once in a while when we remember, but it’s hard to feel God’s presence surrounding us as he said he would. The story about when Jesus walked on water has something to say to us about this.

Jesus Walked on Water
The disciples felt anxious and alone sometimes too. The Bible tells the story of a trip the disciples took across the Sea of Galilee. Without the benefit of modern weather prediction technology, they soon found themselves caught in a terrible storm. Fearing for their lives, they looked out for help and saw a ghost walking on the water toward them. They felt alone in their struggle with nothing more real than a ghost to save them. Only, it wasn’t a ghost. It was Jesus as real and alive as anything had ever been. It didn’t matter what their feelings told them, Jesus was right there with them strengthening them with his word and love. And make no mistake about it, Jesus is with you just as he was with the disciples. We have no ghostly God but a living, loving and active Savior in the person of Jesus Christ.
