I love Holy Week. My dad and husband are both pastors so it seems I’ve always spent more time at church than at home during Holy Week. But really that’s the best place to be in the week leading up to Easter. Christmas has so many activities and traditions outside church that contribute to the general festivities of the season, but Easter is really all about the worship services! It’s about hearing the story of the Last supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the cross one more time. It’s about feeling sorrow over sin and death and the unimaginable joy and hope of Easter morning.

The Week Before Easter
While Easter egg hunts are nice, and I certainly encourage you to get together with family and friends, this Holy Week I encourage you to go to church as many times as you possibly can! Relive the story of Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross just like the Isrealites would relive the story of the Exodus every year. When we hear the familiar words and walk with the women to the tomb on Easter morning we become caught up in God’s story recognizing our place in it and the wonderful peace and contentment that it brings.
A Great Holy Week Lesson
Your students may not have the opportunity to experience all the service during Holy Week, so if you’d like to help them observe Holy Week in the classroom, this Holy Week Google drive lesson for fifth and sixth grade is perfect! It’s is presented in an engaging style that allows students to begin with a time for personal prayer. They will read a passage online and watch a corresponding video. Finally, they are encouraged to apply what they have learned by designing a social media post sharing God’s truth. It’s a great way to observe Holy Week in your classroom!
