Good Friday is the last of the events of Holy Week. The day with the most ironic name in history. It’s the day on which the worst thing that could possibly happen took place. Yet it is also because of this day that we have a restored relationship with God, forgiveness and the promise of life forever with him. Do you remember all the events that took place when Jesus died? One that always sticks in my mind is the tearing of the temple curtain.

Jesus and the Cosmic Curtain
From ancient records we know that this curtain was embroidered with celestial pictures like the moon and stars. It was supposed to represent a separation of heaven and earth. Sinful man could not enter the presence of a holy God so the curtain was hung to mark the rift. Israel. But at the death of Jesus, the curtain was torn in two removing the separation because God had come down to bring his sinful people back to him. It was God’s answer to Isaiah’s plea. “Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence.” The “heavens” were quite little rent. God dwelt with his people again.
