4 Great Ways to Begin a Bible Study

Do you have a favorite book of the Bible? One that you return to over and over again? Psalms is a favorite for many people. Proverbs divides nicely into daily reading sections and has so much practical advice for day to day living. The Gospels are the always great picks. Genesis is fascinating and has many hidden gems of which most people are not aware. If you’d like a good dose of existentialism, try the vastly underrated Ecclesiastes. And if you have a very good Lutheran commentary around tackle Revelation. I guess you could say you can’t really go wrong no matter what you pick as God speaks throughout all of Scripture.

4 Tips for Beginners!

If you’d like to start a Bible study on one of the books of the Bible in your middle school classroom, here are a few tips to get started. First, find a good commentary. You don’t need to have all the answers already. The commentary will help you understand the text and be able to explain it to your students more clearly. Second, lay out the groundwork. Teach your students about who wrote the book, when, and why. This will help them set up a framework for getting the most out of their reading. Third, don’t be afraid to jump to other books. Remember that the Bible is one story so use the other books to help interpret the one you are studying. Fourth, design a note page for your students to keep track of the main ideas that you are learning.
