My husband likes to run. He’ll usually try to get in about two runs a week depending on his schedule, and he is teaching our boys to be runners as well! When they were little they ran with him for a mile before sitting on the sidelines completely wiped out. They’re able to run the full distance with him now and even, occasionally, beat him in short sprints. A few years ago he signed up for a half-marathon and learned the importance of training runs. You can’t just show up to the starting line the day of the race never having run a mile in your life. Training runs give you a chance to prepare, to get used to the sensation of feeling as if your legs are going to fall off, to practice going the distance.

A Training Run
Lent is a little bit like our training run. It feels long and arduous (especially if you’re given up a favorite treat) as we press on toward the goal of Easter Sunday. We sometimes feel as if there were no way we could make it! Easter will never come. But it always does, and Lent is just the warm-up for the real marathon–life. We run slowly but surely through the years God gives us–the actual 40 days of Lent. We run toward the sure and certain hope of the resurrection that awaits us at the end. Sometimes it feels as if we aren’t going to make it, but, fortunately, the one who has already finished the race perfectly runs with us. Blessings as you power through your training run this year!
