A Promise for a Changing World

Although it is probably the most cliche phrase in the history of motherhood, I have to say my kids are growing up too fast! Being a parent is a weird mix of delighting in watching your children learn new things and grow into wonderful human beings, and at the same time mourning the loss of the little babies that used to run around the house in footy pajamas with their hair smelling like apple blossom shampoo. But that is the way of things. Nothing stays the same. Relationships change as new phases of life roll around.

The Ascension Meaning

I imagine this was a little what the disciples were feeling on ascension day. The master they had followed and revered for three years was leaving them. They were still feeling joy over his resurrection, but now the relationship was changing. That’s what makes his final promise to them so comforting. “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Jesus makes the same promise to us! Amidst the changes of this world we have a God who remains the same. His is the same love, forgiveness and grace yesterday, today, and forever!
