It’s hard to keep up with the trends. It seems every week there is a new item that everyone just has to have. It doesn’t really matter whether it’s a new thermos, style of jeans, peculiar looking stuffed animal, or chocolate candy bar, people will jump on a new trend faster than a thrift store fills up with Squishmallows–which is pretty fast, by the way. Constancy and steadfastness are hard to find in our culture today. There is not a lot that anchors it down so it tends to chase after the latest bright and shiny object that promises happiness and community.
Unchanging Foundation
On the face of it, it seems our Lutheran Schools are a bit like our American culture. We change our classroom themes and decor each year; new curriculum replaces the old. Outdated technology is discarded as soon as the school board approves an upgrade. There is a new Bible verse and activities for NLSW each year. But there is one thing that never changes. Lutheran schools teach Jesus. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. In the midst of an ever changing culture, Jesus remains the rock that anchors our schools to the truth and gives our students a firm foundation on which to build their lives.
