Learn How to Read the Bible

Learning to read the Bible is such a challenging skill for students. I wanted to create something to help them become more aware of the books of the Bible. I also wanted to teach them explicitly how to read a Bible.

Building Bible Fluency

Most students, even those who have grown up in church every Sunday, struggle to learn to read the Bible. One must learn to read the chapters and verses. The sheer number of books can be difficult to navigate. Once a student learns both of those things, it can take years to truly master the locations of all the wisdom within God’s Word. Students need guidance to learn how to use their Bibles.

How to Use Centers to Learn the Books of the Bible

Centers allow you to diversify learning to meet the needs of your students. There are twelve centers and twelve cards with lists of Bible stories. The twelve centers include a passage about the sections of the Bible, matching the books to those sections, sorting the books between Old and New Testament, practice summarizing books, draw events that happen in a book, practice how to read a Bible, study a book, explain the Bible to a friend that doesn’t know much about it, recommend books of the Bible, discuss books of the Bible, create a Bible bookmark, and design a Bible study.

As students work through the centers, they fill out a booklet. When they are finished, there are twelve cards that point them to specific stories in the Bible that they are familiar with. The goal is that this would give students three full weeks to explore the Bible and apply the knowledge that they have learned.  The centers allow you to tailor the unit to specific student needs and the cards offer extensions to expand learning.
