People today love to talk about taking care of the environment. Everyone from clothing companies to car manufacturers brags about their carbon footprint and how their ethical business practices will lead to a cleaner healthier world. Likewise, men and women devote their lives to causes that promise to save an endangered species or reduce the impact humans have on nature. Unfortunately, these environment warriors can be loud and overbearing, and it’s hard to know how to respond as Christians. So, studying the story of Adam and Eve will give your students a Godly worldview and an understanding of their relationship with creation.

God’s Gardeners
When God created Adam and Eve, he gave them a job. They were to be stewards of his creation. Which means they were his caretakers and gardeners. They were given dominion over plants and animals not to exploit them or force them into submission, but to help them flourish. Yet it is important to remember that Adam and Eve were created differently than the rest of the world. Humans are God’s highest creation. We can join with those who strive for a cleaner, healthier world, but we speak against those who would subvert God’s order and put creation in dominion over God’s people. What a powerful and important lesson for our students to learn!
