What is Advent all about? Is it just a time for shopping, baking and decorating? We work hard to prepare our houses and stomachs for Christmas, but what about our hearts? That’s the point of this season, it is a time for repentance and reflection as we anticipate Christ’s coming and our need for a Savior. Use this time to teach your students how to prepare their hearts and minds for Christmas.
Waiting for Christmas
The day the first window on the Advent calendar is opened is always momentous. It amazes me the variety of calendars to be found in stores these days. Buy the right one, and your child will have a whole Christmas worth of toys before the day even arrives! But Christmas preparation should go way beyond opening a little window on a calendar. Use these resources to help your students appreciate this season of preparation.
Resources to Teach What Advent Means
Prepare your classroom with a set of themed subway art. They are perfect for bulletin boards or classroom borders. Send home Advent devotions for your school families. These engaging and interactive devotions are a great way to learn the meaning of this special season.
