Lent enables Christians to take a special pause and reflect on their spiritual journey. It teaches us the importance of repentance, self-discipline, and putting others before ourselves. It encourages us to practice intentional prayer and recognize our need for God in our lives. It provides an opportunity to draw nearer to God through sincere contemplation and prayerful meditation.
Putting Others Before Ourselves
I’m writing this as we finish National Lutheran Schools Week, and I cannot help but think of the thousands of teachers that make it possible. Lutheran teaching is certainly not a profession that we enter for glory or riches. In fact, it can sometimes feel like the complete opposite. I realize my brief expression of gratitude is so minuscule compared to the thanks you deserve. Yet, I want to take this moment to say thank you. Thank you for the countless hours that you put in educating students, developing relationships with their families, and guiding them in the love of their Lord and Savior. May God continue to bless and keep you as you serve.
Teaching What Lent Means
One of the most powerful ways to explain what Lent is all about is by speaking from experience. Share stories, anecdotes, and personal experiences that have helped shape your faith journey during Lent. This creates an opportunity to practice thoughtful reflection and illustrate the significance of this special time in a more meaningful way. It also helps cultivate relationships with others who are searching for deeper spiritual understanding.
