Teaching Epiphany Activities in the Classroom

What Epiphany activities do you use in your classroom? Epiphany celebrates the coming of the wise men to visit the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It reminds all of us that Jesus came for all people, not just a select group. If you were to survey your students, how many of them would tell you that the wise men appeared on Christmas Day? Many people think that Christmas ends on December 25.

Helping Families Understand Epiphany

One year, I had a student who was a member of a family who attended church faithfully, lived a Christian life, and displayed every aspect of a strong faith. Many of my students were not like this. Some had rarely been to church. Others go to church but have limited faith knowledge. And that student that I mentioned? She came back to school after making an Epiphany lapbook and said, “My mom (who grew up in the Lutheran church) said that she learned so much from that assignment.” From that moment, I recognized the importance of making time for Epiphany in my curriculum.

How to Teach Epiphany

Depending on the age of your students, you may be considering Epiphany activities in different ways. You could use a mini book that explains the overview of this topic in simple text with pictures that students can color. Maybe your students are a little older, and you want an activity to decorate those bare halls after break. A craftivity with a writing component might be perfect for you. You could also use a flip book to hang in the hall. Perhaps you have upper elementary students, and you are looking for a more detailed lesson in an interactive notebook. Finally, you might be a middle school teacher, and you are searching for some sketch notes for your students.
