Teaching Genesis in the Bible

Genesis in the Bible tells God’s big story to the world and invites every person to know him. In Genesis 1, it shows us the beauty in our world that He created. In Genesis 2, He creates man and woman in His image. By Genesis 3, we see the broken relationship that came with sin. Yet, in Genesis 6, God has a plan to restore the broken world. While that restoration was temporary, Jesus later comes to provide us with that perfect relationship with God again.

Noticing God’s Beautiful Creation

The book of Genesis reminds us to notice the beauty in God’s beautiful creation. I have lived in some beautiful places, but there was nothing like my drive to work in my first ministry as I headed toward the foothills of the mountains in Arizona. This Midwest girl had never seen anything like that, and it was awe-inspiring. Since then, it helped me have a greater appreciation for the beautiful Great Lakes and farm country where I was raised. Today, my drive is next to a giant lake made by men whom God created in the foothills of the Ozarks. How awesome is our God!

Genesis in the Bible

How do you teach your students about the book of Genesis? Personally, I love my project-based learning unit that creates a family reunion out of the book of Genesis. It can be challenging to meet the needs of different levels of students. I always have one student who has never really learned about the Bible, but most of my students have studied Genesis since preschool. I differentiate by giving more knowledgeable students no-prep packets or Google Slides activities to work on while new students learn the important beginnings of God’s Word. These packets and slides are also great for a substitute or students on quarantine. If you teach younger students, the Genesis Centers and Genesis Bible Lessons for Kindergarten are now available for you.
