When his disciples asked him to teach them to pray Jesus gave them the Lord’s Prayer. It is still a model for Christian prayer today and has much to teach us about God and our relationship with him. Learning the meaning behind the words will keep it from being a string of words that falls out of our mouths with no more thought than we would put into a takeout order.
What Does This Mean?
Because it is so familiar we often give our minds permission to wander while saying the Lord’s Prayer. While asking for daily bread, we are busy meal planning the next week. We say, “Lead us not into temptation” but are actually thinking about the cute shoes the person sitting next to us is wearing. It’s time to get back to the basics. Take the prayer apart petition by petition and rediscover the truth hidden in the words.
The Lord’s Prayer Centers
These 12 interactive centers will give your second and third grade students an exciting way to learn the Lord’s Prayer. Not only will they learn the words, they will also discover the meaning behind them and be able to see how the words of the prayer speak to their lives. They are student-led and work beautifully for a variety of ability levels. They are a great option for October Bible time.
