Sketch notes are a virtual representation of information given in a lecture that students capture in a manner that varies from traditional note-taking. It is rare that a middle school student gets an opportunity to dig out their Crayola. How can you keep your students engaged and give them the information they need?
How Did I Discover Them
Personally, I am a fourth grade teacher, but I also have a degree in Spanish. Therefore, I teach kindergarten through eighth grade students in a foreign language. Not only do I enjoy the opportunity to work with a variety of age ranges, I also discovered how much my middle school students love to work with sketch notes.
How to Create Sketch Notes
To give them a try in your classroom, your students will use colored pencils or fine markers as well as blank paper to develop their concepts. They should begin by creating a heading of the main idea. This should be bold with a banner or word art design. Then, students will need to actively listen to create the rest of their notes. They should capture ideas or quotes. Finally, they can add boxes, arrows, stars, or flair to design their notes.
I also have a free holy days introduction page if you would like to try them out in your classroom. Enter your name and email, and I’ll send you Holy Days Introduction Sketch Notes.
