LCMS Baptism for kids offers a different perspective from many of the available resources on the market for students. In the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, we believe in the practice of infant baptism. Baptism is considered a free gift for all people.
LCMS Baptism Observed
I always love to observe a baptism. I have witnessed many over the years – small babies, godchildren, whole families, students who have brought their parents into the church through the blessings of Lutheran schools. In my current ministry, children bring small capsules of water to add to the baptismal font. Then, they sit around it to observe the baptism. It is such a memorable experience for kids to celebrate baptism.
What Do Lutherans Believe?
Baptism is one of those topics that ebbs and flows in my curriculum. We always talk about it as a part of Jesus’ ministry. However, I do not go in-depth with my instruction to define baptism unless I have a lot of student questions. I am sure to teach the details of baptism when I have a student receiving this gift. It is a good review for the student and his or her classmates to prepare for the sacrament. There is a mini book for lower elementary students and a lapbook for upper elementary students. There are also posters about baptism from the Small Catechism for middle school students.
