The Reformation Movement can be an essential part of the lower elementary. At first, it allows younger students to know the grace and mercy of the Reformation. Next, it helps students make the transition to understanding that faith goes beyond God’s Word to church history as well. Finally, it helps them understand why the Reformation is still relevant in their lives today.
My Own Reformation Experience
How did you learn about the Reformation as a child? My first recollection of this lesson was in the first grade. My mom (my teacher that year) had the flannel graph and a coloring packet, I believe. (She could fact-check my six-year-old memory.) By the time I became a teacher, there were not many new Martin Luther resources for lower elementary students.
Reformation Movement Resources
How can you teach Reformation Day in the lower elementary classroom differently? Students can use mini books to provide a visual representation of content. They can use flip books in the same way. If you prefer crafts in the classroom, you can also use one designed around the 95 theses. Finally, you can set up a series of activities around Little Luther for Luther on the Ledge.
If you are looking for ready-to-print Reformation activities for lower elementary students, you can find them in my store.
