Teaching about faith in the Bible for kindergarten should have a strong visual component to it. Visual learners make up sixty-five percent of the population. Visual learning leads to better comprehension. Images also help students directly process content to their long-term memory.
My Experience in Kindergarten
As a part of my first year of teaching responsibilities, I was asked to teach K-5 Spanish. Thankfully, the first-grade teacher was my cooperating teacher, because I had no clue of what I was doing. I gave them five directions at one time, and they all looked at me like I had two heads. I have improved significantly since then, and I actually enjoy teaching those little munchkins. The first couple of weeks can be a little busy as we get into a routine, but then they are sweet, funny, and engaging to teach. However, don’t get me wrong. I’ll stick with fourth grade full-time.
Teaching about Faith in the Bible for Kindergarten
As I was developing this curriculum, the kindergarten teacher where I serve gave me suggestions and input to help make this a great resource for you. There are nine units with four stories each. Each story has five activities to help reinforce the Bible passage. Students can color a review of the passage in a mini book. Next, there is a sequencing page to color, cut and paste. After that, there is a writing activity. Teachers can add their own sentence starter to the lines before copying or printing it as is. Students can add a picture to the writing activity. Then, there is a coloring page. Finally, there is a headband with band pieces for students to color and wear home. In addition to these nine units, there are 10 no-prep packets, mini books for the church year, Bible verse memory activities, and a Reformation packet.
